Welcome to the home page of Horizon Laminates Ltd, Atlantic Canadas Counter Top Manufacturer. I am indeed proud of this company, the people we employ, and of course the products we manufacture right here in my home town of Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Since 1991, we have produced millions of feet of post form counter tops for projects as far south as Chile in South America, as far North as Nain in Labrador and everywhere in between. Our primary focus is servicing a network of dealers from St Johns NL to Miramichi NB and everywhere in between. As we push westward and beyond, it is our goal to be the #1 choice for Atlantic Canada and for all Atlantic Canadians to have access to our eastern Canadian products.

With continuing investment, we have become leaders in the industry with one of the most modern and diverse production lines in all of Canada. As a result, we are now capable of mass producing profile choices that were thought of as impossible just a few years ago. This state of the art line allows the use of some of the most environmentally friendly, water base adhesives available for the post forming industry. As far as Horizon is concerned, gone are the days of heavy solvent based adhesives being vented to the outside. The changes made have all but deleted our carbon foot print which gives us all a greater feeling of satisfaction at the end of the day. We do it all with raw products from the largest companies and best of their kind in Canada and the USA.

We are also a major player in the solid surface market as either distributors and/ or fabricators of Staron Acrylic Solid Surface, Hanstone Quartz, Summum Granite, and Silestone Quartz. This would be for the local market as a custom type product.

Simply put, we are the one stop counter top shop that caters to the consumer through a network of dealers and we have the support of just about all building supply dealers in this province. What We Do

While we are certified in solid surface and stone fabrication and installation,

our claim to fame is post form laminate counter tops in all of the latest profiles, colours and finishes. We run daily standard kitchen, vanity, and bar top but have capabilities that will now allow us to produce as narrow at 10” up to 58”. We take flat sheets of particle board, laminate, a drum of water based PVA adhesives, a little hot melt and with our newly installed state of the art production line, produce a post formed counter top with the highest of quality. We palletize and ship to our many stocking dealers and cutting stations or cut a finished product ourselves to ship. We do it all with superior service and quick turn around times.

Company History

Nuway Kitchens was started by Harvey J Short, my grand father, in 1967. Through hard work, aggressive decision making and long working hours, both he and his son, my father, Harvey D Short grew it into one of the largest and best in eastern Canada. Seeing that counter tops were needlessly being shipped into the Newfoundland market from other provinces, they started Horizon Laminates as a new venture in 1990. A 5000 sq ft plant was built with some good machinery that was capable of producing a quality counter top product for the small market at the time. Harvey J retired in 1995, Harvey D remained president of Nuway Kitchens and I, Harvey E Short, started managing operations of Horizon Laminates Ltd. Horizon has grown to a 12 000 sq ft plant with a 160’ production line and as a result, the dealers that bring the same type products in from other provinces are few and far between. We have gone from a total daily output of 600’ on a great day to an average of 2500’ per shift, with capabilities of 5000’. We have gone from a manual operation to a fully automated solvent free production line. Solvent free adhesives will be required in the not too distant future and we are proud to say we are already there. From our plant in Donovans Industrial Park in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, we have been at the forefront of the home building and renovation market in this province and we will continue to offer quality products and services through out all of Atlantic Canada and where ever our services are needed world wide. Our region is leading the country in growth and we are proud to be a major part of it.
